Privacy Policy

Our Privacy Commitment

BudgetBuddy is designed with privacy as a core principle. We believe your financial data belongs to you and you alone. This document explains our privacy-first architecture and what (minimal) data handling occurs.

What We DON'T Collect

  • No personal information (name, email, phone, address)
  • No financial account connections (no bank linking)
  • No user accounts or authentication
  • No server-side storage of your budget or expense data
  • No tracking pixels or behavioral analytics
  • No cookies for tracking purposes
  • No third-party advertising trackers

Your Data Stays in Your Browser

When you create budgets or track expenses in BudgetBuddy, all of that data is stored exclusively in your web browser using IndexedDB. This data:

  • Never leaves your device
  • Is not transmitted to our servers
  • Is not backed up to the cloud
  • Is not synced across devices
  • Remains under your complete control

What's Stored in Your Browser

  • Budget configurations (income amounts, category allocations)
  • Expense entries (dates, amounts, categories, descriptions)
  • User preferences (default categories, currency settings)

You Control Your Data

  • Export it anytime (CSV/JSON download)
  • Delete it with one click
  • Clear it by clearing browser data
  • It persists until you choose to remove it

Site Analytics

We use Ahrefs Web Analytics to understand aggregate site metrics like page views, geographic regions (country level only), browser types, and referral sources. This does NOT include your budget amounts, expense entries, or any personal identifying information.

Shared Budget URLs

When you use the "Share Budget" feature, budget parameters are encoded in the URL itself (e.g., ?income=5000&housing=1500). Anyone with the URL can view those budget parameters. No personal expense data is included in shared URLs.

Important: Only share budget URLs with people you trust.

Data Breaches

Risk Level: Extremely Low

Because we do not collect or store your personal or financial data on our servers, there is virtually no risk of a data breach exposing your information. Your data stays in your browser only.

Summary

Your financial data stays private because it never leaves your browser. We built BudgetBuddy this way intentionally. You don't have to trust us with your data - you only have to trust your own device.
